Jeremy Johnson

Principal AI Engineering Tech Lead. Agentic Systems · Enterprise AI Platforms · AI Developer Tooling · Applied ML.

Summary

Principal-level AI engineering leader with a long track record of building production software systems, leading engineering organizations, and turning advanced technical capabilities into working products. Deep experience across AI platforms, agentic systems, developer tooling, enterprise software, consulting, and software quality.

Built and ran a software consulting firm in Malaysia for roughly a decade, growing it to a team of 15 world-class consultants and delivering bespoke software development, performance testing, and automated testing services for major enterprise customers including AirAsia, Maybank, Bank Negara, Shell, BMW, AEON, and GE Finance. Co-founded the Python User Group Malaysia and provided technical mentorship to startups through incubators in Kuala Lumpur.

At DataRobot, recent work has focused on enterprise AI platform capabilities including Enterprise MCP architecture, proxy/search/execute workflows, secure sandboxed code execution, human-in-the-loop controls, OAuth2-enabled tool flows, skills/tool ecosystems, agent templates, and enterprise-ready OpenClaw / DR-Claw enablement. Built production agent infrastructure around context economics, SDK-scale tool access, sandbox threat models, evals, feature flags, rollback paths, and operational recovery. Earlier experience includes helping build Real Python into one of the most recognized Python education brands in the world and leading software development efforts at Harvard Medical School.

Selected Proof

  • Designed DataRobot's Global MCP gateway around a small semantic search/execute surface for a roughly 4MB OpenAPI REST surface, giving agents access to full SDK-scale capability without spending every turn on tool catalog context.
  • Shipped secure sandboxed code execution through per-call Kubernetes Jobs with Envoy + OPA egress controls, a strict security context, small base images, and sub-200ms cold-start targets; the centerpiece PR was roughly 28,000 lines across 214 files.
  • Helped take the Global MCP gateway live in production in April 2026, with agent skills reaching the Cursor marketplace and Claude marketplace submission immediately after.
  • Led Lean Testing work that reduced a 458-hour-per-day functional/E2E testing burden by 85%, reduced test infrastructure cost by 65%, and deleted 15,914 lines of E2E tests after coverage had been rebuilt at lower layers.
  • Led Root Insights framework work that was initially scoped for nine months and took about a year, consolidating one-off insight implementations into a reusable contract while preserving customer-facing behavior.
  • Led storage cost reduction efforts across logs and older modeling artifacts, owned release readiness and on-call/SLA process design, and served as Incident Commander.

Experience

DataRobot - Principal AI Engineering Tech Lead
July 2025 - Present

  • Leading cross-organizational initiatives shaping DataRobot's next-generation enterprise AI platform capabilities.
  • Driving DR Global MCP, including search and execute / sandbox modes for tool-enabled AI workflows over a roughly 4MB OpenAPI platform surface.
  • Designed the gateway around a small semantic search/execute interface and Code Mode-style SDK access to keep agent context budgets useful while preserving broad enterprise platform reach.
  • Shipped secure sandboxed code execution through per-call Kubernetes Jobs with egress controls, strict security posture, and production-oriented rollback / smoke-test paths.
  • Enabling hosting and orchestration of arbitrary APIs defined by OpenAPI specifications, expanding interoperability across enterprise systems.
  • Advancing human-in-the-loop controls to support safer, more usable, and more governable AI workflows.
  • Building and maturing core platform components including tools, skills repositories, agent templates, and related reusable frameworks.
  • Contributing to MCP apps / UI, eval infrastructure, marketplace-ready skill packages, and secure sandboxed execution environments for AI-driven execution.
  • Implementing an enterprise-ready OpenClaw / DR-Claw offering enabling DataRobot to host and sell long-running agent systems to enterprise customers.
  • Operating as a hands-on principal engineer across platform architecture, internal enablement, productization, enterprise readiness, and incident command.
